The Art of Asking; or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Let People Help by Amanda Palmer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Honest. Raw. Real. This book is all those things. It made me laugh and cry, and I feel like I really KNOW Amanda Palmer now.
Before I picked up this book, I didn't really know much about her, apart from her song 'Map of Tasmania' and that she is married to my favourite author, Neil Gaiman! Now she feels like a close friend. Is that weird? Perhaps it's a little weird but I think she would understand!
The book details her early career as a living statue ('The Bride'), her Kickstarter success, her relationship with her fans, her marriage, her hopes, dreams, fears, insecurities, and everything in between. It's about the connections you make with your fellow humans, and trust, and asking for help when you need it, and giving to others, and art. And love.
I've never read anything quite like it.
Thank you, Amanda Palmer. I see you.
