My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I really enjoyed this 8th Harry Potter story (and I really, really, really want to see it on stage now, even more than before, because that's the way it's meant to be experienced)!
It was wonderful to be with Harry, Ron and Hermione again, but this is a story about the next generation - Albus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy. Neither boy feel like they fit in - Albus feels the heavy burden of being Harry Potter's son, and rumours that Voldemort is Scorpius's father have made his life miserable. The boys become friends and, well, they get into a LOT of trouble.
Albus and Scorpius try to change the past - and things do not go to plan. And Harry's scar has started to hurt again...which, as we all know, is NEVER a good sign.
It was strange, at first, reading a play rather than a novel, but I got into the swing of it pretty quickly. There was danger, humour, and some really poignant moments, and it was really interesting getting to know Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny and Draco as adults.
There were some surprising twists and turns, the return of old friends and foes in unexpected ways, and the story was - what's the word? Magical.
I liked it. A lot. Do you think if I started a GoFundMe page that I could convince some kind, generous people to contribute to my airfare to London and tickets to the play? LOL! Just kidding. Or am I?
So read it as a play (because that's what it is) without constantly wishing that it was a novel and I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as I did.
