A Kiss of Shadows by Laurell K. Hamilton
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
I'd heard a lot about Laurell K. Hamilton, but this was the first book I'd read of hers. It sounded interesting from the blurb, but it wasn't what I thought it would be. It's weird, fairy porn. Not much happens, and I didn't really care about any of the characters. There's a lot of hot, male fairies, blood sucking, people being turned inside out (LITERALLY) and not a great deal of story.
Basically, our heroine, Merry Gentry, is a fairy princess, hiding in Los Angeles and working as a detective. Then her aunt, the fairy queen, invites her back to the fairy court, as her heir, but there are - conditions - most of which involve sex with hot, male fairies... Merry's main enemy is her cousin (the Queen's son, Cel, and her co-heir - something he's not happy about) and he's nasty and has nasty people working for him.
There's a fairy guy who's handsome (as they all are) apart from his TENTACLES (yuck) and there's a very detailed description of the goblin king and his extra - appendages...
It was all just a bit too much for me...and so this is the first, and last, book I'll read from this author. It's just not my thing.
