Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies by J.K. Rowling
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This is the first of three collections of short stories from "Pottermore Presents". There are four stories in all, each providing some background to some of the characters from Hogwarts we've come to love.
The characters covered in this one are Minerva McGonagall, Remus Lupin, Sybill Trelawney and Silvanus Kettleburn (a former Care of Magical Creatures teacher who apparently lost a few limbs during his time at Hogwarts!). After each story is further information about that character's particular type of magical skill - Animagi (McGonagall), Werewolves (Lupin) and Naming Seers (Trelawney).
It was interesting to learn about the characters before Harry Potter's time, and some of the revelations were really sad, particularly Lupin's story (I don't want to talk about it. Sob!). The stories are written like mini history lessons, which was distracting for a while - I was expecting more of a traditional story telling style like in the Harry Potter series itself. But that didn't stop me from enjoying them for what they were.
It's a quick read, and I'd recommend it to anyone who is craving a little more Potter. And isn't that all of us?
