![The Grim Grotto (A Series of Unfortunate Events, #11)](https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1415580928m/65111.jpg)
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
At the end of "The Slippery Slope", Violet, Klaus and Sunny are floating down the mountain river, watching helplessly as Quigley Quagmire floats off in the other direction! Before long though, they are rescued by the submarine "Queequeg" and it seems they have found some allies in Captain Widdershins, his stepdaughter, Fiona, and to their surprise, Phil, their optimistic friend from the Lucky Smells Lumbermill!
They are searching for the mysterious sugar bowl, which seems to be the key to the whole mystery. But Count Olaf and his henchmen are also searching for the sugar bowl. The Baudelaires and their new friends suspect the sugar bowl might have ended up in the Gorgonian Grotto, which unfortunately is the home to a very poisonous fungus called the Medusoid Mycelium.
One of the Baudelaires falls victim to the deadly mushroom, and the race is on to find a cure! But in the meantime, Count Olaf, Esme and Carmelita reappear, Captain Widdershins and Phil disappear, there is an unexpected sibling reunion, and no sign of the sugar bowl!
A message from Quigley leads them back to where it all began - Briny Beach - and the book ends with the Baudelaires getting into a taxi and driving away to the last safe place - The Hotel Denouement.
Again, a fun read. I will be sad to say goodbye to these characters (even Count Olaf!). But with only two books to go, the end is nigh.
