Short Stories from Hogwarts of Power, Politics and Pesky Poltergeists by J.K. Rowling
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
In the second book in the "Pottermore Presents..." series, we learn more about Dolores Umbridge, the various Ministers for Magic, Horace Slughorn, Quirinus Quirrell and our favourite poltergeist, Peeves! We also learn about how Azkaban began, potions in general, the Polyjuice potions in particular, and cauldrons.
As with the first collection, each story fills out the background on characters or events that were in the Harry Potter books. I found it particularly interesting how JK Rowling chose her characters' names, and the careful thought that went into each so that the name reflected the character's personality. Even Azkaban is derived from "Alcatraz" (the infamous island prison) and "Abaddon", which apparently means "place of destruction" or "depths of hell". Fairly apt, I think!
Another interesting and informative read!
