All Together Dead by Charlaine Harris
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is the seventh Sookie Stackhouse book and it was just as much fun as the others I've read so far.
In this story, Sookie accompanies the Queen of Louisiana, Sophie-Anne Leclerq, to a major vampire summit in Rhodes. Amongst other vampire business to take place at the summit, the Queen is to go on trial for the murder of her husband, the King of Arkansas.
However, soon after the Queen's party arrives in Rhodes, her main accuser and her entourage are murdered, and the Queen invites the sole survivor of the Arkansas vampires to join her. It appears that the trial will not take place, until that same survivor changes his mind! It doesn't end well - for him...
Meanwhile, the Queen's right hand vampire, Andre, tries to force Sookie to exchange blood with him, which will bond her more closely to Andre and therefore the Queen. This is the last thing Sookie wants to do, but it appears there is no way out until Eric turns up and saves the day (sort of). Sookie has now exchanged blood with Eric three times, which makes their bond very strong indeed. (Actually that doesn't sound too bad to me, just quietly! Because ERIC.) Unfortunately Quinn witnesses this little episode so AWKWARD. But anyway, moving on.
There are other minor vampire trials too, a gay vampire wedding, a bomb scare, and the reappearance of Sookie's fellow telepath, Barry. They work together to find out what's going on, and there is a lot! Betrayals, plots, murders, explosions, and a bit of a love triangle thing happening with Sookie, Quinn and Eric. Bill is also on the scene, but Sookie can't and won't forgive him. Poor Bill. I feel a bit sorry for him. But on the upside, he does a roaring trade selling his computer program at the summit!
The Fellowship of the Sun rears its ugly head again, with (ahem) explosive results, and not everyone gets out alive. But I can tell you that Eric is injured but okay. Phew.
Now on to book 8, 'From Dead to Worse'.
